How are metal detector test samples used?

Ferrous (FE), non-ferrous (NFE), and stainless steel (SS) samples should each be placed in the center of your product, which then passes through the center of the metal detector. If the detector is properly calibrated, the sample will be detected and rejected. Repeat this process with all three samples.

How often should the metal detector be challenged with the test samples?

Refer to your companyâ€™s HACCP plan for requirements. We recommend testing before production, after production, and every hour during production. Frequent testing minimizes potential recalls if the detector malfunctions.

How often do the metal detector test pieces need to be replaced?

Replace test samples about every 5 years, depending on wear and tear. The spheresâ€™ characteristics do not change unless exposed to extreme conditions such as superheating or demagnetization.

How do you guarantee the correct sphere in each test standard?

Each sample is electromagnetically tested to confirm the correct sphere is embedded.

Should I use colored or white test samples?

Check your companyâ€™s HACCP procedures first. We recommend colored samples for contact with products. White samples contain FDA-approved paint lettering, but the paint could flake into your product.

Why do I need to test with three different types of metals?

Each metal type interacts with the magnetic field differently, and products can also affect the field. Testing with all three metals (FE, NFE, SS) ensures full accuracy.

What size test standards do I need?

The sample size may be too small, or your detector may be out of calibration. Refer to the calibration section at www.fastecservices.com or call 864-836-3600 for technical support.

What are the samples made of?

They are made from FDA-approved acetal plastic. Certification is available upon request.

Do the test pieces come with any certifications?

Yes. All standards include a traceable lot number and a Certificate of Compliance (COC). Certificates can be downloaded at www.calibrationwands.com/certificates by entering your lot number.
